    • Aim was to overthrow the Weimar Republic and reinstall a monarchy
      • Gathered 5000 troops in the streets
    • Response: Trade Unions called for a general strike
    • Significance: worsened division between right wing and the republic
  • Continued political violence
    • The murder of Walther Rathenau
      • By right wing extremist
    • Passed the law for protection of the Republic
      • Did not help due to judges (they were conservatives)
  • Economic crisis and instability of the German currency
    • Reparations made matters worse
    • Germany ask for a suspension / moratorium (postponement)
      • France declines
    • Ruhr Crisis
      • Passive resistance
    • Government print more money in order to support the workers
      • Hyperinflation
        • Affects the middle class
